Summer Mini-Camps 2018

Monday-Friday, 9:00-12:00
$195/week
Maximum 6 students per camp
Priority registration for current students till March 15
Welcome to my inaugural year of summer mini-camps! I am happy to start providing this selection based on the growing popularity of studio class and group lessons, as well as parent requests for a good music camp that goes beyond the "try-it-out" level. This is our chance to celebrate a year's worth of practice by engaging with the music that is in our lives every day. Is an amplified cactus a musical instrument? What characteristics make Darth Vader's theme so Darth Vader-y? What's it like to be a real recording artist? How exactly do we put our own musical ideas on paper for anyone to play? Let's explore these questions and more with some fun group projects!

Details & FAQ
Where

All camps will take place at my home studio, which will be slightly reconfigured for "camp mode." There will be an extra practice station with keyboards and headphones, a media station for our use of notation and sound editing software, and an art station for camp-related projects such as homemade instruments, illustrations for original compositions, and album cover designs.
When
Each mini-camp is Monday-Friday, 9:00-12:00 on the dates listed above. Note that some camps happen only once, while others are in rotation.
Who is eligible?
There is at least one camp for every age and level. These themes were specifically chosen out of many more ideas because they are the most adaptable to many experience levels. Students who are currently enrolled in lessons receive priority registration until March 15, after which I will begin accepting additional students. If you have a friend who wants to join this camp with you, let me know!
Enrollment
Current students may enroll at any time using their My Music Staff login. (Don't know it? Ask me.)
New students may sign up at any time using this form, and will be on a waiting list until March 15.

Payment
Full tuition is due at the time of registration. Please read the full policy carefully before signing up for a mini-camp. When you register for one or more camps, you will receive an invoice for the amount due. You can pay by credit card, check, or cash. Your place is not reserved until full payment has been received.

FAQ
What will this be like?
Each camp will take the form of a weeklong creative project. The arc of the week will include:
  • Icebreaker
  • Inspiration - introducing special composers, artists, listening, videos, and other items that will inform our work
  • Three different 45-minute activities each day, sometimes as a full group, sometimes rotating
  • Snack & Relax break
  • Individual work as needed to complete our project
  • Field trip and/or presentation of our final work
You've never done this before?
This is my first time offering camps through my private studio. However, I was a summer camp faculty member at my past two places of employment: Westminster Conservatory of Music in Princeton, NJ, and Crowden (including their famous Scrape Squawk & Bang camp). These mini-camps are the fruition of what I wished those camps would have been, combining fun and creativity with the hard work and accomplishments of the previous school year. These camps are further informed by the interests of my students, as well as my experience as a parent.
What do the levels mean?
If you are a current student of mine, level corresponds to your Piano Adventures level. For students who use other materials, Level 1 would correspond to about one school year of piano lessons, and so on.
Is there aftercare?
I so wish I could provide aftercare, as I know it is essential to many families' work schedules. This is the try-it-out year. Next time I hope to expand into a location that can accommodate full days and a few additional teachers. If your child is interested but needs a full day, let's talk! I would be happy to try and facilitate carpools & childcare shares with other participants.
I just want to continue regular lessons. Is that an option?
Regular private lessons will be offered on a limited basis throughout summer. See the Summer Lessons page for more details.
